Affiliate disclosure: how this site makes money
Last updated: · written by the FileLocator team
As an Amazon Associate, filelocator.net earns from qualifying purchases. That's the required sentence. Here's what it actually means, in plain English.
Where the affiliate links are
Amazon links live on exactly three hardware pages — best SSD upgrades, best NAS drives and best external drives — and very occasionally in a guide where a hardware recommendation genuinely fits the topic. Every page that carries one opens with a disclosure notice linking back here. Reviews, comparisons and the rest of the site contain no affiliate links of any kind.
What clicking costs you
Nothing. If you click one of our links and buy something on Amazon, you pay exactly the same price you'd pay anyway, and Amazon sends us a small percentage of the sale. That commission is what keeps the site running without ads, paywalls or sponsored posts.
The editorial firewall
Commissions never change a ranking or a score. Our process makes that structural, not just a promise: gear picks are chosen and ordered before any links are added, based on the same hands-on testing we describe on the about page. A drive that pays a higher commission gets no boost; a drive with no affiliate program at all can still be our top pick. The writers don't see commission rates, and the rates don't see the writers.
What we don't accept
We don't accept payment for reviews, sponsored placements, "guaranteed coverage" deals or score previews — from software vendors or hardware makers. Every tool we review is downloaded or bought by us, and every opinion on this site is the team's own.
How to spot an affiliate link here
Easy: they're the orange "Check price on Amazon" buttons on the gear pages. If a link doesn't look like that and doesn't point to Amazon, it isn't an affiliate link. Internal links between our own pages never earn us anything.
Questions?
If anything about this arrangement is unclear — or you spot a page that you think should carry a disclosure and doesn't — contact us and we'll sort it out.
